I was born in State College, Pennsylvania and I grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. I went to college at Harvard, where I studied English Literature. After spending a year in Morocco on a Fulbright Fellowship focused on pubic health, I headed back home to Maryland for medical school. I enjoyed all of my rotations, but I found my psychiatry experience particularly compelling. Training opportunities (and meeting a New Yorker that I'd later marry) led me to Columbia University and New York Presbyterian Hospital.
After completing my general residency, then child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship, I started my career in an academic setting, engaging in clinical research, teaching and administration. Over time, I've shifted my focus to clinical work, though I remain on faculty at Columbia, where I teach Advanced Psychopharmacology to the Columbia and Cornell child and adolescent psychiatry fellows.
Currently, I live in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY with my wife and two children. I enjoy spending time with them, coaching youth sports (basketball and baseball) and finding excuses to be outside.
About My Approach
I believe strongly in collaboration. My most important job is to listen. Once we share an understanding of a problem, I'll suggest the interventions that I feel are most appropriate, and I'll also learn about any others that you may be considering. We'll discuss what the best option or options may be for you and your family. I try to be transparent with information and approachable with questions. If you are in my practice, and especially if there is a crisis, I will be there to help.
